Main areas of attacks
The map shows the main areas of attacks in and around the Gwoza hills since August 2014. Already by the end of 2013 Boko Haram had taken control of
the hills as well as its eastern plain. Early September 2014 Gwoza town was declared a caliphate. Later in 2014 Boko Haram took Michika,
Mubi, Maiha and Hong in Adamawa state but was driven out again. Boko Haram managed to hold on to Gwoza town and the hills area but in
March Nigerian troops advanced and by mid March retook Bama and later in the months also freed Gwoza town but its hills still now remain under the control of Boko Haram.
